A man convicted of attempted second-degree murder went missing from a Los Angeles-based Male Community Reentry Program on Wednesday, according to officials.

Just before midnight, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation was alerted that an ankle monitor was removed. After a headcount at an MCRP home, the missing inmate was identified as 26-year-old Adolfo Casillas.

The CDCR described Casillas as 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds. He has brown eyes, black hair and was last seen wearing gray shorts and a light-gray hoodie.

Casillas had been sentenced to 14 years for attempted second-degree murder with a sentencing enhancement on grounds of the Street Gang Act. He’d just entered the L.A. MCRP on Jan. 23.

The MCRP allows those who are eligible to serve the end of their prison sentences in a re-entry center, which provides them an easier transition from custody to the community, according to the CDCR. The voluntary program is intended for men with about one year left in their prison sentence.
