Deputies on Sunday apprehended a worker inmate who had walked away of a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department station in Lomita, officials said.
Arturo Valenzuela, 23, was a “trustee” assigned to the station, according to department. He left through the rear parking lot of the facility, in the 26000 block of Narbonne Avenue, about 2:40 p.m., a news release said.
Deputies established a perimeter and initiated a search for Valenzuela, who was not considered dangerous, a sheriff’s spokesperson said.
The inmate was found about 5 p.m. in a jacuzzi, which was partially filled with water, in the backyard of a home in the 25900 block of Cypress Street, authorities said. He was rearrested without incident.
Valenzuela sustained an ankle injury in the incident and was taken to a hospital for treatment, the statement said. He was later booked on an escape charge and was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
