Authorities investigating multiple suspicious fires in El Segundo

Multiple suspicious fires were set across an El Segundo neighborhood overnight, authorities said.

El Segundo Fire Department Battalion Chief Casey Snow confirmed to KTLA that at least three small fires were reported at 11:50 p.m. Sunday night as well as 12:19 a.m. and 12:27 a.m. Monday morning near the intersection of El Segundo Boulevard and Douglas Street as well as in the area of Park Place.

“Our crews were able to put out the fires very quickly [since] they were very small,” Snow said. “However they are suspicious in nature due to the fact that they were all in the same area and they all happened around the same time.”

Patio furniture, a portion of a shed at a construction site and patches of grass were among what was set alight. Neighboring jurisdictions also reported suspicious fires further east on El Segundo Boulevard, Snow added.

No description of a suspect or suspects has been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Community members are encouraged to be aware of the suspicious fires and remain vigilant.

“If you see any signs of this happening again, call 911 immediately,” Chief Snow said.
