Minutes after authorities issued an Amber Alert Monday for a 5-year-old boy who may have been abducted in South Los Angeles, the child was reported found safe by police in Hawthorne.
Jaelynn Conston, 5, was believed to have been taken by a 25-year-old woman named Tatiyanna, according to a tweet from the California Highway Patrol’s Southern Division.
CHP was looking for a Silver Infiniti SUV with a license plate of 5HIG762.
The boy was described as African American, with black hair, brown eyes, weighing 45 pounds and 4 feet 11 inches in height, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Liliana Preciado said.
He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a white shirt with a hot dog printed on it.
The boy was found safe in Hawthorne, LAPD Officer Jane Kim said about 1:10 p.m.
On its Facebook page, the Hawthorne Police Department stated patrol officers found the vehicle empty, with the boy and his alleged abductor nearby. LAPD officers took the woman into custody from Hawthorne police, the Facebook post stated.
The boy and his mother had been visiting at a friend of a friend’s house when the mother went to the bathroom. When she came out of the restroom, the boy was gone, Preciado said.
The incident occurred about 10 a.m. in the 1300 block of West 39th Street.
The suspected abductor was described as a black woman with black hair and brown eyes, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 140 pounds.
The individual took the mother’s 2005 Infiniti FX, Preciado said.
