A 20-year-old Newport Beach man was charged Thursday with hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughters in a June 2014 crash that killed a bicyclist in Laguna Beach.
Dylan Thomas Randluby was behind the wheel of a 2005 Toyota Prius when he swerved out of his lane and into a bike lane, killing 55-year-old cyclist John Colvin, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
Driving away with a shattered windshield, Randluby fled the scene without stopping to help Colvin, authorities said.
He was chased up North Coast Highway by two witnesses who called 911 and followed him until he pulled over in an elementary school parking lot, according to police and the DA’s office.
The driver was questioned but was not initially cited, Laguna Beach police said after the June 17 collision.
Randluby was charged with felony hit-and-run causing injury and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence, the DA’s office announced.
He faced up to four years in state prison if convicted.
Randluby was due to be arranged in a Newport Beach courthouse on Wednesday morning. Prosecutors planned to ask that bail be set at $50,000.
No one by Randluby’s name was in custody Thursday, according to Orange County inmate records.
