A convicted sex offender was arrested in San Bernardino County on Tuesday after police said he was walking around completely naked in public after committing a sexual assault on a public transit train.
Officers in Upland responded to the area of 9th Street and 2nd Avenue around 6 p.m. on reports of a nude male near the Metrolink station and Cooper Regional History Museum, the police department posted on social media.
They quickly located and detained the man and placed a towel around his waist, photos show.
“While dealing with the man, an LA County Sheriff’s Deputy drove up and said they were looking for a subject who committed a sexual assault on the Metrolink train,” police said.
Authorities say Edward Rodriguez, 32, boarded an eastbound train at the El Monte station. A female rider told investigators that he was shirtless and carrying a box of beer when he tried to kiss her while grabbing her arm and touching himself, partially exposed.
The alleged victim got away and exited the train at the Claremont Station, where she called the police, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told KTLA 5 News. She later identified Rodriguez after he was detained in Upland.
Rodriguez was turned over to deputies and booked on several charges. Police said he also had a felony warrant out of L.A. County for a parole violation related to a prior sex crime involving lewd acts against a child.
