(NEXSTAR) — Time for a culinary road trip? Yelp’s just released its annual list of the “Top 100 Places to Eat in the U.S.”
The rankings — determined by Yelp with input from its community of online reviewers — highlight a diverse selection of U.S. restaurants, with 25% of this year’s list being made up of Asian or Asian-fusion restaurants, according to Yelp.
The number 1-ranked restaurant on Yelp’s list is Tumerico, a Latin American eatery located in Tucson, Arizona.
California maintains its position as the state with the most inclusions, boasting a whopping 18 restaurants on Yelp’s 2024 list, including five in the top 10 alone. Florida, the runner-up, is home to 13 of this year’s honorees, while Texas and Arizona share third place with eight each. Nevada rounds out the top five, with six restaurants on the list.
California’s top-five places to eat, according to Yelp, are:
- Sunny Side Kitchen — Rank: 3. Located in Escondido, Sunny Side Kitchen offers a variety of sandwiches, salads, soups and sweets. It currently holds a 4.8 Yelp rating out of 5 across 1,105 customer reviews on Yelp.
- GS Cafe and Ethiopian Cuisine — Rank: 4. This Covina eatery cooks up several types of traditional Ethiopian dishes, including kitfo, tibs and gored gored. GS Cafe currently holds a 4.9 Yelp rating across 549 customer reviews.
- Broken Mouth | Lee’s Homestyle — Rank: 6. Located in Los Angeles, Broken Mouth (which was voted no. 1 in Yelp’s Top 100 U.S. Restaurants last year) presents a blend of Hawaiian and Korean dishes which has earned the restaurant a 4.8 Yelp rating across 1,778 reviews.
- Sierra Subs and Salads — Rank: 8. This Three Rivers stop offers a wide variety of sandwiches, burgers and quesadillas, including many vegetarian and vegan options. Sierra Subs and Salads currently holds a 4.9 Yelp rating across 599 customer reviews.
- Uncle Af’s — Rank: 10. Located in Agoura Hills, Uncle Af’s menu features several salads, sides and specialty sandwiches, including a chicken burrata and a Persian olivieh sandwich. Uncle Af’s currently holds a 4.8 Yelp rating across 789 reviews.
As noted above, however, Yelp’s 2024 rankings aren’t necessarily a reflection of the best-reviewed restaurants on its entire platform.
In compiling this year’s list, Yelp solicited submissions and suggestions from users, and then compared those suggestions against each business’s Yelp ratings and volume of reviews. Additionally, Yelp’s community managers further curated the rankings based on their “expertise” before the list was finalized.
So while these restaurants may not be the absolute best-reviewed across Yelp’s entire platform, they’re the spots locals are raving about.
Yelp also says the list includes plenty of affordable eateries, with 85% offering dining experiences at under $30 per person.
