Beyoncé drops new music after starring in Super Bowl commercial

(NEXSTAR) — Beyoncé dropped two new country tracks after appearing in a Super Bowl ad during Sunday’s big game against the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.

The minute-long Verizon commercial shows Beyoncé breaking the internet in many different ways, from opening a lemonade stand to playing the saxophone to running for “Beyoncé of the United States.” The ad ends with the pop icon saying, “They ready, drop the new music.”


Later, a cryptic Instagram video with country iconography appeared on her page, teasing “Act II” on March 29.

Then came another surprise: Bey released two new singles from the project on Tidal, YouTube, Apple Music and Spotify. The songs are titled “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages.”

In the up-tempo country song “Texas Hold ‘Em,” she sings: “And I’ll be damned if I cannot dance with you. Come pour some liquor on me honey, too.”

The second, “16 Carriages” is a soulful slow-burn with ascendent organs and steel guitar. Beyoncé sings an ode to hard work and legacy: “I miss my kids. Overworked and overwhelmed.” A quick examination of the credits shows she may be working closely with Tony! Toni! Toné!‘s Raphael Saadiq.

Beyoncé’s 2022 album “Renaissance” is frequently referred to as “Act I: Renaissance.” Her world tour, which celebrated the Grammy-nominated album, grossed nearly $500 million, according to Billboard. Over the course of five months, about 2.7 million concertgoers attended.
