A driver who led California Highway Patrol officials on a pursuit on the southbound side of the 5 Freeway Tuesday afternoon surrendered in Valencia after his tire blew out, aerial video from Sky5 showed.
About 12:25 p.m. a CHP vehicle came alongside the driver after passing Six Flags Magic Mountain. Authorities appeared to use a spike strip while in pursuit and the front tire of the blue Dodge Caravan minivan blew out.
The driver then slowed down after speeding on the highway, and he appeared to be slamming his hands on the steering wheel.
He eventually stopped the vehicle and waved his arms out of the window. The driver then got out of the vehicle and surrendered to authorities, aerial video showed.
CHP’s Southern Division took over the pursuit from CHP Bakersfield, Officer Peter Nicholson said. The driver was originally wanted for going the wrong, way, Nicholson said.
Traffic conditions in the area are light during the chase, aerial video showed.
